About Élan Academy
Élan Academy Charter School is an academically challenging, disciplined, and joyful elementary school in New Orleans, LA. Through a classical curriculum, high-quality instruction, and leadership development, Élan Academy ensures that all students have the foundation necessary to thrive in secondary school, succeed in college, and access lives of opportunity.
We believe that a strong academic foundation begins in kindergarten. At Élan Academy, our kindergarten teachers play a critical role in shaping scholars’ first school experiences and instilling the values, skills, and habits that set the tone for future success. We are looking for passionate educators who believe in the limitless potential of every child and are committed to fostering both academic excellence and joyful learning.
Our kindergarten teachers provide structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate instruction grounded in the Core Knowledge and classical curriculum model. This includes building early literacy and numeracy skills, supporting social-emotional development, and cultivating curiosity and independence. Teachers are held accountable by the Principal and Instructional Coach for instructional quality, student growth, and collaboration.

Create a warm, orderly, and joyful classroom environment that supports young learners’ development
Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned, and developmentally appropriate lessons in early literacy, math, and foundational content knowledge
Use research-based practices to build phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
Implement a structured approach to handwriting, oral language development, and early writing
Scaffold instruction to meet the wide range of developmental needs and learning styles in a kindergarten classroom
Use songs, chants, movement, and interactive activities to build student engagement and memory
Uphold high expectations for student behavior, following school-wide systems and using positive reinforcement consistently
Conduct ongoing assessments (both formative and summative) and use data to drive lesson planning and differentiation
Maintain strong, consistent communication with families about academic progress, behavior, and classroom events
Collaborate and support the development of the co-teacher
Plan and collaborate with interventionists, and instructional leaders to reflect, and continuously improve practice
Participate fully in professional development, coaching, and staff-wide learning experiences
Attend all school events including family nights, recruitment fairs, and community engagement activities
Passion for early childhood education and a belief that kindergarten sets the tone for lifelong learning
Experience teaching kindergarten or early elementary students
Deep understanding of child development, the Science of Reading, and early math concepts
Strong classroom management and the ability to build a safe, predictable environment for young learners
Willingness to work collaboratively and receive feedback
Strong communication and organization skills
Commitment to continuous growth, reflection, and professionalism
Louisiana State Teaching Certification (PK–3 or K–5) preferred but not required
