Our Behavior Interventionist plays a critical role in maintaining a positive school environment by supporting students in developing the skills they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Position Overview
The K-8 Behavior Interventionist works closely with scholars, teachers, school leaders, and families to implement behavior intervention strategies that promote a positive and inclusive school culture. This individual will provide direct support to students experiencing behavioral challenges, implement proactive strategies to prevent disruptions, and help ensure that all students have the tools they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Intervention
- Work with students who need additional behavioral and emotional support, using evidence-based interventions to improve self-regulation and decision-making skills.
- Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) in collaboration with teachers, families, and the Scholar Support Team.
- Provide direct coaching and mentoring to students, helping them set and achieve personal behavior goals.
- Utilize restorative practices to address conflicts and misbehavior in a constructive, growth-oriented manner.
Proactive & Preventative Strategies
- Support classroom teachers in implementing behavior management strategies that foster positive student engagement.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to staff on best practices for student behavior support.
- Lead small-group and one-on-one social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions to develop students' coping and problem-solving skills.
- Develop and reinforce school-wide behavior expectations, routines, and incentives in alignment with Élan Academy’s culture model.
Crisis Management & De-escalation
- Respond to immediate behavioral incidents in a calm, professional manner, using de-escalation techniques.
- Provide a safe space for students in crisis, helping them regulate emotions and reintegrate into the learning environment.
- Track behavior data and trends to identify students who may need additional interventions or referrals.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with teachers, school leadership, and families to create a consistent, supportive approach to student behavior.
- Participate in Scholar Support Team (SST) meetings to provide insights and recommendations for behavior interventions.
- Maintain clear and consistent documentation of behavior interventions, progress, and outcomes.
- Partner with families to provide strategies and resources to support positive behavior at home.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field (required).
- 2+ years of experience working with students in a school, counseling, or behavioral support role.
- Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques, restorative practices, and SEL frameworks.
- Experience developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situations.
