Position Summary
The School Counselor at Élan Academy Charter School is a vital advocate for students' academic, social-emotional, and career development. In this role, you will provide proactive support, guidance, and resources to empower students to achieve their full potential. You will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to foster a positive school culture and ensure every student feels supported and valued.
Responsibilities
1. Academic Guidance
- Assist students in setting and achieving academic goals.
- Support the development and implementation of individualized academic plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to address barriers to academic success.
2. Social-Emotional Support
- Provide individual and group counseling for students facing social or emotional challenges.
- Develop and deliver schoolwide programs to promote mental health, SEL, and positive behavior.
- Intervene in crisis situations, offering immediate support and referrals as needed.
3. Career and Post-Secondary Planning
- Introduce students to career exploration and goal-setting activities.
- Provide resources and guidance for high school and college readiness.
- Collaborate with families and external organizations to ensure students have access to opportunities that align with their goals.
4. Family and Community Engagement
- Build trusting relationships with families to strengthen the home-school connection.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies to connect families to necessary resources.
- Facilitate workshops or informational sessions for parents on topics such as adolescent development, mental health, and college planning.
5. Schoolwide Collaboration and Leadership
- Partner with staff to develop a positive and inclusive school climate.
- Lead initiatives focused on attendance, behavior management, and bullying prevention.
- Provide professional development to teachers on topics such as student mental health and effective communication.
6. Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling services and student progress.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including those related to student confidentiality.
- Prepare reports and analyze data to inform program improvement and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related field required.
- State certification as a School Counselor required.
- At least 2 years of experience in a counseling role within a school or related setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of SEL, trauma-informed practices, and college and career readiness frameworks.
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving diverse student populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic school environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salaries for this role range from $50,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This role includes a comprehensive benefits package, professional development opportunities, and the chance to shape the lives of students and families in a meaningful way.
