Position Summary
Élan Academy is seeking a passionate, skilled, and culturally responsive Art Teacher to teach PK4–8th grade and lead our Talented Visual Arts program. The ideal candidate blends strong artistic skill, clear instruction, and a love of children with the ability to design and deliver an art curriculum that builds technique, creativity, and appreciation for diverse artistic traditions.
This teacher will serve as both the general art teacher for all grade levels and the Talented Art Instructor, identifying, supporting, and accelerating gifted students in visual arts through differentiated instruction, portfolios, exhibitions, and advanced projects.
Key Responsibilities
Teach engaging, standards-aligned art classes to students in PK4 through 8th grade.
Develop and implement a vertically aligned curriculum that builds artistic skills over time (drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital art, etc.).
Introduce scholars to classical art, global art history, and contemporary artists.
Foster a classroom environment where creativity, exploration, and positive risk-taking are celebrated.
Design meaningful routines, procedures, and behavior expectations that result in joyful, focused learning.
Integrate literacy, culture, and cross-curricular themes into art projects.
Maintain an organized, safe art classroom and monitor inventory of materials and supplies.
Identify students with exceptional artistic potential based on talent assessments, portfolios, observations, and teacher/parent input.
Develop individualized learning plans and advanced artistic challenges for talented art students.
Provide small-group or individualized instruction aligned to Talented Art standards.
Prepare students for district juried evaluations, showcases, and exhibitions.
Support portfolio development for middle school students pursuing high school arts programs.
Build strong relationships with students and families rooted in respect and high expectations.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, enrichment teachers, and school leadership to support the whole child.
Participate in school-wide events, art showcases, the Winter Showcase, and community celebrations.
Reinforce Élan Academy’s LEADER values: Leadership, Enthusiasm, Achievement, Determination, Empathy, and Respect.
Produce high-quality, school-wide art exhibits throughout the year.
Support the Winter Showcase, Holiday Market, Mastery Jacket Ceremony, and other Élan events through visual displays and performances.
Partner with local artists, museums, and organizations to expand student opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree required (Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field preferred).
Valid Louisiana teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification (Art Education preferred).
Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students.
Experience with gifted/talented programs strongly preferred.
Demonstrated artistic portfolio with a range of media and techniques.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a structured, joyful learning environment.
